ADEFA also reported that in the first half of the year, auto factories exported 107,877 units, representing an increase of 102.7% over the same period last year when 53,222 vehicles were sold to the ‘foreign.

On the domestic market, between January and June, 172,426 units were sold to dealers, 40% more than the 123,158 delivered in the first half of 2020.

“The results for the first half of the year underline the efforts made across the entire value chain since we resumed our activities after the [coronavirus] quarantine to resume the path of growth, despite the logistical and health limitations at the international level, “said ADEFA president Daniel Herrero in a statement.

Argentina’s economy has been showing signs of recovery lately, having recorded a huge 9.9% contraction in 2020 as Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns hit businesses across the country. This collapse follows two previous years of recession.

Economic activity increased by 28.3% in April compared to the previous year, according to data from the national statistics office of INDEC, although it fell by 1.2% compared to March, when a brief nine-day Covid-19 lockdown was imposed.

According to INDEC, gross domestic product grew by 8.2% in the first four months of this year, compared to the same period in 2020.
