MANCHESTER City are reportedly in transfer talks with midfielder Enzo Fernandez as they look to form a young Argentinian duo with team-mate Julian Alvarez.
City have been negotiating with River Plate for some time, following the successful transfer of Argentina international striker Julian Alvarez in January, who is currently back in Argentina on loan.
Journalist Sergio Gonzalez, via All about Argentina says the clubs are making progress in negotiations.
Fernandez is a defensive-minded midfielder and has been one of Argentina’s most successful players, putting himself in contention for the World Cup.
He is said to have a £20million release clause, a bargain price for a promising young midfielder.
Fernandez is also believed to be on the transfer radar for Arsenal and Manchester United, but City are in pole position.
Defensive midfielders command a high price in today’s market, and Fernandez could prove to be a cheap alternative to Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, who are also linked with moves this summer.
The 21-year-old is a River Plate youth product and spent the 2020 season on loan at Defensa y Justicia.
Following that, he got a chance in the first team and hasn’t looked back since.
The youngster has made 20 appearances for River Plate this season, scoring two and assisting three goals on the season.
Fernandinho could be a player to leave Man City as his current contract expires this summer.

City and other Premier League sides will have to act smart for Enzo as they face competition from the continent’s elite.
Real Madrid are believed to be eyeing the Argentine, as they look for long-term replacements for their aging midfield trio.
City’s transfer priority this summer would be a midfielder, with Sporting’s Matheus Nunes in Portugal also linked.
City have also identified Erling Haaland as a long-term successor to Sergio Aguero, who left the club last summer.
